Description
Function and Use
These tags are anti-theft devices used by retail stores to protect high-value or high-risk items like clothing, footwear, and accessories. They contain an internal sensor (typically 58kHz AM or 8.2MHz RF) that triggers an alarm if the item passes through the store’s security pedestals without being deactivated or removed.
Key Components
- The Tag Body: The larger plastic piece that houses the internal security sensor.
- The Pin: The smaller, round plastic piece with a metal needle.
- Locking Mechanism: When the pin is pushed into the small hole on the tag body, it is held in place by an internal magnetic or mechanical clutch, securing the tag to the garment.
Removal Information
In a store, these are removed at the checkout using a specialized high-strength magnetic “detacher”. If you have purchased an item and found a tag still attached, it is usually because it was missed by the cashier. While there are home methods for removal (such as using high-powered magnets or specific mechanical techniques), it is generally recommended to return to the store with your receipt so they can remove it safely without damaging the fabric.
