Description

How it Works

  • Technology: This specific model is a dual-frequency RF (Radio Frequency) tag, typically operating at 8.2 MHz.
  • Locking Mechanism: It uses a high-strength magnetic locking system. Inside the raised “dome” or “bulge” on the tag, there is a spring-loaded plunger and metal ball bearings that grip a serrated pin to keep the tag securely attached to the fabric.

Removal Methods

While these are intended to be removed by a store associate using a specialized high-powered magnetic detacher at checkout, there are several “at-home” methods if a tag was accidentally left on a purchased item:
  • High-Powered Magnet: Place a strong magnet (like a neodymium or hard drive magnet) against the raised dome portion of the tag. This should retract the internal plunger, allowing the pin to be pulled out easily.
  • The “Two Fork” Method: Wedge two forks between the tag and the fabric, one on each side of the pin. Gently prying and wiggling the forks can sometimes create enough pressure to pop the pin out.
  • Rubber Bands: Wrap several thick rubber bands tightly around the pin between the tag and the clothing. The accumulated pressure can eventually force the internal locking mechanism to loosen or the pin to pop off.
  • Cutting the Dome: Carefully using a kitchen knife or hacksaw to cut off the top of the raised plastic dome will reveal the internal spring and ball bearings. Once these are removed, the pin will slide right out.
